About Atomic Liquors
Atomic Liquors holds liquor license number one in Las Vegas, issued in 1952 to Stella and Joe Sobchik. The bar got its name from the atmospheric Nevada Test Site detonations 65 miles to the northwest — patrons in the 1950s climbed to the roof to watch the mushroom-cloud sunrises over cocktails. The Sobchik family sold in 2012 to new operators who renovated the space without erasing its history — the original horseshoe bar, vintage photos of test-site blasts, and the original Atomic neon all remain. The rooftop is now a working patio with views toward the Fremont Street canopy. Walk-ins work weekday afternoons; weekends are packed. Cocktails stay reasonable by Strip standards; shorter list than Velveteen Rabbit but a more genuine piece of Vegas history.
