University District (UNLV)
The area around UNLV and the Thomas & Mack Center — walkable, younger, and home to the Harry Reid airport tunnel.
About University District (UNLV)
The University District surrounds the UNLV campus on Maryland Parkway, about a mile east of the Strip. The neighborhood took on a stronger identity with the 2020 opening of the Harry Reid International Airport people mover tunnel and the surrounding urban-planning push to connect campus to the Strip via Tropicana Avenue. The Thomas & Mack Center hosts UNLV basketball, the National Finals Rodeo each December, and the occasional arena show. Sam Boyd Stadium, farther east, was retired in 2019 when Allegiant Stadium opened for the Raiders. The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art on campus is free and genuinely worth an hour. Maryland Parkway is the neighborhood’s spine: cheap Thai, student bars, 24-hour diners, and the sort of businesses that exist because rent is half of what it is on the Strip. Easy ten-minute rideshare from most Strip hotels.
