Summerlin
A 22,500-acre master-planned community on the western edge of the valley, bordered by Red Rock Canyon.
About Summerlin
Summerlin was launched by the Howard Hughes Corporation in 1990 on land the reclusive billionaire had quietly assembled decades earlier. Today it covers 22,500 acres on the western edge of the valley and is home to about 100,000 residents, plus the Las Vegas Ballpark, the Las Vegas Aviators, and City National Arena (the Vegas Golden Knights’ practice facility). For visitors, Summerlin is the best base for hiking Red Rock Canyon, which is a 15-minute drive from Downtown Summerlin. The Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa sits at the western edge of the community with direct views of the escarpment. Downtown Summerlin itself is an outdoor lifestyle center with roughly 125 stores and restaurants — a lower-key alternative to Fashion Show or the Forum Shops. Stay in Summerlin if you want a quieter trip focused on hiking, golf, and local restaurants, and you don’t mind a 20-minute drive to the Strip.
