About Shark Reef Aquarium
Shark Reef Aquarium opened with Mandalay Bay in 1999 and is the only AZA-accredited aquarium in Nevada. The 1.6-million-gallon facility holds about 2,000 animals across 14 exhibits, including sand tiger sharks, green sea turtles, sawfish, a Komodo dragon, and a colony of red-bellied piranhas. The centerpiece is a 1.3-million-gallon shipwreck-themed tank with an acrylic tunnel walkway through the bottom — sharks, rays, and reef fish swim overhead and around you for the length of the passage. Self-guided audio tour included with admission. Diving programs (cage and open-water with sharks) run as separate paid experiences. Off the main casino floor at Mandalay Bay; allow 90 minutes for the full circuit.
