New York-New York opened in January 1997 as a joint venture between MGM Grand Inc. and Primadonna Resorts, built as a skyline-themed resort on the Strip-and-Tropicana corner. The exterior facade combines forced-perspective replicas of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and a dozen other Manhattan landmarks, along with a quarter-scale Statue of Liberty at the Tropicana corner. The Big Apple Coaster wraps around and through the facade — a 203-foot-tall steel coaster that was one of the first modern Strip amusement rides when it opened with the resort. Inside, a Greenwich Village-themed casino floor leads to the Mad Apple Cirque du Soleil residency. 2,024 rooms across a central tower. Operated by MGM Resorts. The Tropicana corner location makes the property easy to combine with Park MGM and the T-Mobile Arena across the pedestrian bridges.
