About Calico Basin
Calico Basin is a residential canyon just outside the Red Rock Canyon NCA fee gate, accessed off Calico Basin Road. Because it's outside the loop drive, no entry fee or timed-entry reservation applies — useful when Red Rock is full or before the gate opens. The Red Spring Boardwalk is a quarter-mile ADA-accessible loop with interpretive signs about the desert spring and the Southern Paiute use of the area. The Kraft Boulders, a half-mile walk past the picnic area, are one of the most popular bouldering destinations in southern Nevada — short approach, good rock, dozens of established problems. Free. No facilities beyond pit toilets and picnic shelters. Sunrise here is one of the better photo opportunities within 30 minutes of the Strip.
